BLS Course
BLS — Basic Life Support — is the emergency response training that healthcare professionals in the UAE are expected to hold and to keep current. Safety First Medical Services is an American Heart Association training centre in Abu Dhabi, and runs BLS at our Al Reem Island centre as well as on site at hospitals and clinics across the Emirates. Basic Life Support is the set of actions that keep blood and oxygen moving through someone whose heart or breathing has stopped, from the moment you find them until an advanced team takes over. It is deliberately narrow. It is not a general first aid qualification and it is not advanced cardiac care — it is the handful of interventions that decide whether a cardiac arrest patient is still viable when the crash team arrives.

Every part of that is assessed by hands-on demonstration on a manikin, not by a written test alone. That is the point of the qualification: an employer accepting your card is accepting that somebody watched you do it.

There are three routes to the same AHA BLS Provider card, and they suit different people.
An instructor-led session at Addax Office Tower on Al Reem Island. You learn, practise and are assessed in one visit. This is the right choice if you have never held a BLS card, or if you want the full practice time rather than a refresher.
You complete the AHA online modules at your own pace, wherever you are, then attend a short hands-on skills session with an instructor to be signed off. Most working clinicians choose this because it takes the classroom hours out of the roster. Full detail on how HeartCode blended BLS works.
We bring instructors, manikins and AED trainers to your hospital, clinic or office and certify a whole department in a day. This is usually the cheapest route per person and the least disruptive to a shift pattern. Email training@safetyfirstmed.ae with your headcount and preferred dates.
Sessions at our centre run between 09:00 and 17:00, and HeartCode learners book a short skills slot inside that window. Seat availability is shown live on the registration form above — if a date is full it will say so rather than take your booking.
Pass the skills assessment and you are issued an American Heart Association BLS Provider eCard, valid for two years from the month of issue. It carries a unique code that an employer or a licensing body can verify directly with the AHA, which is why an AHA card travels well — it is recognised in the UAE, across the Gulf and internationally.
Two years passes quickly. Diarise the renewal at the twenty-month mark rather than the twenty-fourth: if the card lapses completely, some employers will treat you as uncertified until you have retrained. The practical detail is on BLS renewal and recertification.
Our fixed centre is in Abu Dhabi, on Al Reem Island, and it is the easiest option if you work in the capital, on Saadiyat, in Mussaffah or in Al Ain. For teams based in Dubai, Sharjah or the Northern Emirates, on-site delivery is normally the sensible answer — the instructors travel rather than the department. No, and you should be wary of any provider that says otherwise. The knowledge portion can be completed online through AHA HeartCode, but a card is only issued after an instructor has watched you perform compressions, ventilations and AED use on a manikin. A certificate issued without that hands-on check is not an AHA Provider card and employers in the UAE do reject them.
No. There is no prerequisite. The course is designed to be taken by someone with no previous resuscitation training, although in practice most candidates are healthcare staff renewing an existing card.
