Looking for a BLS course in Abu Dhabi? Safety First Medical Services is an American Heart Association training centre on Al Reem Island, and BLS — Basic Life Support — is the course we run most. Our BLS training leads to the AHA BLS Provider certification that UAE hospitals and clinics ask for, and that is accepted for DOH (Abu Dhabi), DHA (Dubai) and MOH licensing. In short
A BLS course is a one-day, hands-on certification in Basic Life Support: recognising cardiac arrest, high-quality chest compressions, rescue breathing with a pocket mask and bag-mask, AED use and choking relief, on adults, children and infants. In the UAE it is normally the American Heart Association BLS Provider course. You are assessed on a manikin by an instructor, and the card you receive is valid for two years.
Basic Life Support is the set of actions that keep blood and oxygen moving through someone whose heart or breathing has stopped, from the moment you find them until an advanced team takes over. It is deliberately narrow. It is not a general first aid qualification, and it is not advanced cardiac care. It is the handful of interventions that decide whether a cardiac arrest patient is still viable when the crash team arrives.
An AHA BLS Provider course covers six things, and it covers them until you can do them without thinking:
Every part of that is assessed by demonstration on a manikin, not by a written test alone. That is the whole point of the qualification. When an employer accepts your card, they are accepting that a qualified instructor stood next to you and watched you do it.

There are three routes to the same AHA BLS Provider card. They are not better and worse, they suit different situations.
An instructor-led session at Addax Office Tower on Al Reem Island. You learn, practise and are assessed in a single visit. Choose this if you have never held a BLS card, or if it has been a long time and you want the full practice time rather than a quick refresher. First-timers consistently do better this way.

We bring instructors, manikins and AED trainers to your hospital, clinic or office and certify a whole department in a day. It is normally the cheapest route per person and by far the least disruptive to a shift pattern — nobody loses half a day to travel. No. Online BLS certification without a hands-on skills check is not an AHA BLS Provider card, and UAE employers and licensing officers routinely reject it. The AHA route that lets you learn online is HeartCode blended BLS: the theory is online, but the certificate is only issued after an instructor has watched you perform compressions, ventilations and AED use on a manikin. If a website offers a same-day BLS certificate with no practical session, that is the reason to walk away.
BLS training ends with two assessments. The skills tests check adult CPR and AED use, and infant CPR, against the AHA standard for depth, rate, recoil and interruptions. The written test is a short multiple-choice exam on the course content; the AHA pass mark is 84%. Neither is designed to trip you up, and if a part is not passed first time, the instructor coaches you and retests. People ask this more than anything else, and most training pages never answer it. Here is the honest version.
Sessions at our centre run between 09:00 and 17:00 at Addax Office Tower, Office 1105, 11th floor, Al Reem Island, Abu Dhabi. If you booked HeartCode blended, you are attending for a skills slot inside that window rather than the whole day, so you are in and out.
You will spend most of the time on the floor, on your knees, next to a manikin. That is not a figure of speech — compressions are done from a kneeling position and you will be doing a lot of them. Wear something you can kneel and move in. Trousers rather than a skirt, flat shoes, and nothing you would mind creasing. Scrubs are ideal and nobody will think twice about them.
Bring photo ID, and if you are renewing, bring your existing card or eCard code. If you completed HeartCode online, bring the completion certificate — on your phone is fine.
The structure is watch, practise, be assessed. You will see the skill demonstrated, you will practise it on the manikin with the instructor correcting you in real time, and then you will be tested on it. The manikins give live feedback on compression depth, rate and recoil, so you are not guessing whether you are doing it right — the equipment tells you, and it is usually the depth that people are getting wrong.
Nobody is trying to fail you. If something is not right at the assessment, the instructor coaches it and you go again. In a well-run BLS course the failure rate should be close to zero, because the entire day is designed to get you to the standard rather than to sort candidates.
Pass the skills assessment and you are issued an American Heart Association BLS Provider eCard, valid for two years from the month of issue. It carries a unique code that an employer or a licensing body can verify directly with the AHA. That verifiability is the reason an AHA card travels — it is recognised in the UAE, across the Gulf and internationally, and a credentialling officer can confirm it in under a minute without ringing anybody.

Two years passes quickly, and there is no grace period built into the card. On the first day of the twenty-fifth month it is simply expired, and many UAE hospitals treat an expired card as non-compliance and restrict clinical duties until it is back in date.
Book at around the twenty-month mark. A renewed card runs from its new issue date, so renewing early costs you nothing in coverage, and it means the card is never the thing holding up a credentialling check. We quote BLS per booking rather than publishing one number, because the honest figure depends on how many people are training, whether the instructors travel to you, and whether you take the classroom or the blended route. What the fee always includes is the instruction, the equipment, the assessment and the AHA eCard itself.

No. A general first aid course is broad and shallow, covering bleeding, burns, fractures and some CPR. Basic Life Support is narrow and deep: it covers cardiac and respiratory arrest only, but drills it to a measured standard on adults, children and infants, including two-rescuer technique and bag-mask ventilation that a first aid course does not teach.
