BLS for Paramedics
For pre-hospital clinicians, BLS is not a formality — it is the part of resuscitation that happens in the back of an ambulance, on a stairwell or at a roadside, often with only two people. The AHA BLS course tests exactly those skills.
In short
Paramedics and EMTs need current BLS as the foundation of every resuscitation, usually with ACLS and PALS on top. Two-rescuer CPR, bag-mask ventilation and minimising pauses are the skills that matter most in the field.
Survival from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest depends on the early links of the chain of survival: recognition, CPR and early defibrillation. Ambulance crews often arrive to find bystander CPR in progress, or none at all, and must take over seamlessly.
Paramedics who carry drugs and a manual defibrillator also need ACLS, and usually PALS. Both require current BLS skills.
We run on-site BLS training for ambulance and event-medical providers so whole crews certify together.
Many out-of-hospital arrests begin with bystander CPR. The handover is a vulnerable moment: compressions stop, people talk over each other, and time is lost. Crews that agree roles on the way in, take over compressions without a pause and ask one clear question about what happened recover minutes that matter. It is the same discipline taught in high-performance team dynamics.

The standard and the test are the same AHA BLS Provider course. In on-site sessions for crews we spend more time on two-rescuer CPR, bag-mask ventilation and handovers, because those are what matter in the field.
