What the Two Sessions Cover

Session one — reading the statements. The three financial statements and how they connect: the profit and loss statement (did the business make money, and from what), the balance sheet (what it owns and owes at a point in time) and the cash flow statement (where the money actually moved). The session works through real examples rather than textbook abstractions, including the distinction that catches most non-finance managers out — a profitable practice running out of cash, and a loss-making one that still has money in the bank.

Session two — costing, profitability and decisions. What a service genuinely costs to deliver once shared overheads, staffing and equipment utilisation are accounted for; where margin actually comes from across the UAE healthcare ecosystem, from pharmacies and distributors to scientific offices, hospitals and polyclinics; and how to use that understanding to evaluate an opportunity, price a service, or judge whether an investment stands up.

Who Should Attend

Clinicians who have become accountable for a budget without ever being taught to read one. Practice and clinic owners who receive monthly reports they file rather than interrogate. Pharmacists and pharmacy owners managing stock, margin and cash at the same time. Managers and administrators moving up from operational roles. And healthcare entrepreneurs evaluating a practice, a partnership or an acquisition.

The common thread is not job title but position: you are responsible for decisions with financial consequences, and the training that got you here did not cover the financial part.

Why Healthcare-Specific Finance Training

General finance courses teach the same statements, but with examples drawn from manufacturing or retail. Healthcare does not behave like either. Revenue is claim-driven and arrives late; a large share of cost is fixed in equipment and clinical staffing; margin is highly sensitive to utilisation; and payer mix changes the economics of the identical procedure. Being taught against healthcare cases removes an entire translation step, which is why two sessions here achieve what a longer general course often does not.
