Continuing Medical Education (CME) under the Department of Health (DOH) in Abu Dhabi refers to structured educational activities designed to help healthcare professionals maintain, develop, and enhance their knowledge, clinical skills, and professional performance throughout their careers. CME is an essential component of professional competency, patient safety, and license revalidation for physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and allied health professionals working in Abu Dhabi.
Categories of CME Activities
The DOH categorizes CME activities into at least two main types:
Category 1 Activities: Formal, structured educational activities such as live workshops, conferences, seminars, clinical attachments, practice-based learning, and academic courses that are accredited by the DOH.
Category 2 Activities: Less formal or self-documented learning such as journal clubs, teleconferences, informal discussions, and certain self-directed educational activities, where practitioners self-claim credit.
