Sports First Aid
Sports settings have their own pattern of emergencies: twisted ankles, head knocks, heat on outdoor pitches and, rarely but most importantly, sudden collapse during exercise. Coaches and gym staff are expected to act, and many hold a first aid course card as part of their role.

Gyms and clubs should have staff trained in CPR and AED use at every session, with an AED on site. Coaches of outdoor and youth sport benefit from the full first aid course or pediatric first aid.
A person who collapses during exercise and is not breathing normally needs CPR and an AED immediately. Rapid defibrillation is the single biggest factor in survival. Gym staff on Heartsaver CPR AED or the full course learn exactly this.
Evening training in summer is still hot. Build in drinks breaks, watch for players who become confused, stumble or collapse, and know heat stroke first aid.
Ask members and parents about asthma, diabetes and allergies, and keep inhalers and medicines pitch-side.
Every club should have a one-page plan: where the AED and kit are, who calls 998, the venue address and the gate the ambulance should use. Walk through it once each season with coaches so the first real emergency is not the first time anyone has thought about it.
