Pediatric First Aid
The AHA Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED course is written for the people who look after children every day: teachers, nursery and childcare staff, school bus assistants, coaches and parents. It covers first aid, CPR, AED use and choking for infants and children, practised on child and infant manikins.

Schools and nurseries in the UAE commonly want staff trained in paediatric first aid. It is also the right course for parents and nannies. Healthcare professionals who treat children need BLS and PALS instead.
The standard first aid course focuses on adults. If most of the people in your care are children, choose pediatric. Some schools train some staff in each. See the pediatric course page for the course description.
Children are not small adults. Infants are given compressions with two fingers or two thumbs, about 4 cm deep, and children with one or two hands, about 5 cm deep. Choking relief for an infant uses back blows and chest thrusts rather than abdominal thrusts. A child’s airway is small and blocks easily, so breaths matter more in child CPR than in adult CPR. The pediatric course practises each of these on infant and child manikins until the differences are automatic.
