What to Expect
If you have never done a first aid course, it is natural to wonder whether there will be exams, role plays or fake blood. Here is how the day actually runs at our centre on Al Reem Island.
In short
Short video demonstrations, then hands-on practice for each skill with an instructor coaching you. No written exam to worry about: you show the instructor you can do each skill, and you leave with a two-year AHA card.
Arrive a few minutes before 09:00 with photo ID. The group is kept small enough for everyone to practise. Tell the instructor about any injury or condition before you start.
Each topic starts with a short AHA video showing the skill, then you practise it straight away. Topics follow the Heartsaver modules: first aid basics, medical emergencies, injuries, environmental emergencies, then CPR, AED and choking.
You demonstrate the key skills to the instructor as you go. If something needs work, you practise again until it is right. Most people find this far less stressful than they expected. Warm up with first aid practice questions if you like.
You receive an AHA course completion card valid for two years — see the first aid certificate. Many learners go home and check their own first aid kit the same evening.

The course is assessed mainly by demonstrating skills; your instructor explains any written component on the day.
