First Aid Renewal
An AHA Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED card is valid for two years. First aid skills fade faster than that if you never use them, so renewal is also a genuine refresher: you practise the same skills again, with anything that has changed in the guidelines.
The short answer
Book a Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED course before your card expires, practise and demonstrate the skills again, and receive a new two-year card. For teams, stagger renewals so first aid cover never lapses.
Book a month before the expiry month. If your company relies on you as a nominated first aider, a lapsed card can leave a shift without cover.
You attend the Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED course again, practise each skill and demonstrate it to the instructor. There is no separate “renewal exam”; the standard is the same as the first time. See the course page for details and the booking form on this page for dates.
Two minutes a month helps: look at where the AED and first aid kit are at work, check the kit is stocked, and run through the CPR sequence in your head. After a real incident, ask for a debrief.
