PALS Renewal
The AHA PALS Provider card is valid for two years and expires at the end of the month printed on it. Renewal follows the same standard as the first course, but most renewing providers take HeartCode PALS and spend only a short hands-on session at our centre on Al Reem Island.
The short answer
Book a month before your card expires, complete HeartCode PALS online, attend the skills session, pass the child and infant BLS and case testing, and a new two-year PALS eCard is issued. Keep BLS current as well.
Plan to renew four weeks before the expiry month. Paediatric and neonatal units often need every nurse and doctor current at the same time, and a lapsed card can take you off a rota. If your BLS is due in the same period, renew both together.
There is no grace period: once the expiry month passes, the card is expired. You can book straight onto a PALS course to recertify. Tell your manager, since you may not be able to cover paediatric resuscitation until the new card is issued.
