Be ready to act in the first critical minutes of a medical emergency — for adults, children and infants alike.

The Highfield Level 3 International Award in Emergency First Aid and Use of an AED with CPR for All Ages is a one-day qualification for anyone who may be called upon to act as an emergency first aider at work or in the community. It combines emergency first aid with full CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) training across every age group, so learners can respond confidently whoever the casualty is.

The qualification has a total duration of 8 hours of delivery and assessment, and is highly practical throughout — learners work on adult, child and infant manikins and with AED trainers.

Topics include:

• the role and responsibilities of the first aider, and first aid in the workplace
• assessing an incident — scene survey, primary survey and casualty communication
• CPR for adults, children and infants, and the safe use of an AED
• the recovery position, continual monitoring of breathing, and seizures including epilepsy
• choking and obstructed airway in adults, children and infants
• external bleeding, wounds and embedded objects, and hypovolaemic shock
• minor injuries — cuts, grazes, bruises, splinters, nosebleeds, burns and scalds

Successful learners receive a first aid certificate valid for three years, after which they are required to retrain and recertify.
